70 Sunreef POWER: A dream motoryacht for CHARTER

We have already presented Sunreef’s most popular power yacht – the 70 Sunreef Power – on different occasions, although usually as a superb yacht for remote cruising and round-the-world trips. You’ll certainly recall the fascinating story of Laurent Bourgnon on his dream journey with his family, now in its fourth consecutive year.Still, we thought we shouldn’t forget that this model is also a fantastic charter yacht, which has been demonstrated during recent charter seasons with DAMRAK II, ABUELO and SEA BASS. Managed by their central agency, Sunreef Yachts Charter, these yachts are increasingly popular for hire and are booked regularly by motoryacht and catamaran lovers alike.

Indeed, the 70 Sunreef Power has all the elements that charterers wish to find on board of their perfect holiday yacht. That’s why some owners decide to put their yacht in the charter programme: to take advantage of the option to cover ongoing yacht expenses.First of all, guests are delighted with the living SPACE. Accommodation for up to 8 is available onboard this stunning yacht with a selection of 4 custom-designed guest cabins.

The master cabin is truly luxurious, stretching the width of the yacht’s beam (except on SEA BASS, which has two VIP cabins in the front) and including a king size bed, 32” TV and spacious en suite facilities. The other 3 cabins are also generously sized, including 1 king and 2 queens. All guest rooms feature 22” TVs, ample wardrobe space, and private en suite facilities. Storage space is a key factor for those who prefer to spend their charter away from the coast and the marinas. Guests can comfortably store their personal items, while the crew can store enough food and fuel.

The interiors are superb and highly comfortable, but it’s the 80m2 external space which is an absolute delight, including a vast cockpit and an extremely spacious flybridge, easily rivalling 100 feet motoryachts.
The 38m2 cockpit is an ideal dining place for 8-12 guests. It also houses numerous water toys such as seabobs, diving equipment, inflatable toys, snorkelling gear, floating mattresses, a large tender, etc.  A discreet starry sky effect in the ceiling adds a magical note to the evening ambience.

The 42m2 flybridge is the area where guests usually spend the most time during the day and in the evenings.  They can enjoy superb 360° views while dining or sunbathing.  On DAMRAK II and SEA BASS, the flybridge has a spa pool, jet ski with its launching crane, sun pads, dining table for 8-12, sofa, wet bar, and a helm station. SEA BASS is also fitted with a retractable diving platform for performing daring jumps into the sea. In turn, ABUELO offers more open space, with lounge chairs instead of the Jacuzzi. This allows guests to enjoy large parties… with a proper mirrored disco ball hanging from the bimini! Although this is where sunshine can be the most enjoyable, the guests can also rest and dine in soothing shade thanks to the hard top providing protection from the sun.  Crews confirm that the flybridge is the most desirable area during charters.

Both exterior spaces have the best quality music systems by Bose, Harman Kardon or Bang & Olufsen.
STABILITY and COMFORT of cruising come next as some of the most appreciated features of this power catamaran. They both come naturally thanks to the twin-hulled structure. Even inexperienced guests or children will feel comfortable and safe during the charter. This is especially important if you intend to sail around small islands, such as the BVIs, Greek or Balearic Islands. This makes sailing through any bad weather much easier than on a traditional monohull.  All the cabins, saloon and internal helm station are bathed in abundant natural light, making relaxing inside just like being at home.

The LOW DRAUGHT, and the lower fuel consumption that comes with it, is also an appealing element for charter guests. It means that the yacht can easily access shallow bays and hidden beaches, inaccessible to large yachts. Guests can almost swim to the beach themselves from the yacht moored nearby.
FINE DINING on board also provides some favourite holiday moments. After an active day on the water or visiting local harbours, guests can look forward to relaxing with an excellent meal prepared by the experienced chef on board.  Award-winning chefs have a perfect work space to prepare the most spectacular meals, either in the fully-equipped galley on the main deck or in the hull. Guests can choose three dining spaces depending on the weather conditions: in the saloon, in the cockpit or on the flybridge. Lunches are often served in the cockpit to make the most of being close to the water and escape the sun, while aperitifs and dinners are appreciated on the flybridge under starry skies.

Guests also appreciate the impeccable CUSTOM FINISH and the array of gizmos and gadgets on board. All Sunreef motoryachts are finished according to their owners’ wishes, and guests appreciate their timeless and sublime modern design.  All yachts are equipped with state-of-the-art technical features such as satellite TV and phone, WiFi, home cinema entertainment system and Playstation, with many movies and video games to be enjoyed by families, a 42” TV in the main saloon, TVs and DVD players in the cabins, iPod, iPhone and iPad remote controls, etc. ABUELO also has a TV hidden in the cockpit ceiling. We are pasting you here its first part:Leaving for a sabbatical year: how do we go about it? How do we finance it? And is it really worth it? How will the children live through this adventure? These are the kind of questions, amongst others, that potential long-term sailors ask.

LEAVING; WHAT IF ALL YOU HAD TO DO WAS DARE?
We all dream about it: leaving our reassuring, but so predictable daily routine behind, to sail to the other side of the ocean, to see if ‘lagoon blue’ is a real colour, to discover the wonderful islands lined with coconut trees, to take advantage of the family and watch the children grow up… To live and sail with no other constraints but the ones we fix for ourselves.More and more men and women are making the dream real, by leaving for a year or more, to sail around the Mediterranean, the Atlantic, or even the world. This is a dream which is not just for millionaires or experienced sailors.

A sabbatical year aboard a catamaran – in the end, perhaps you just have to have the courage?
During the twenty years or more that Multihulls World has existed, many of our readers have taken the step. They left and came back. Often, these ‘adventurers’ confided in the magazine’s journalists, and our photo collection is full of their memories, immortalised in the world’s most beautiful places. From these thousands of experiences, each of them different according to the people involved, we can draw one conclusion: leaving for a sabbatical year (at least) really is worth it.

PRE-DEPARTURE WORRIES
Yet before actually taking the step and casting off, there will be so many anxious, sleepless nights, and so many questions to ask… And above all, the feeling of guilt at wanting to take the family on an adventure which is often a childhood dream that the other members of the family do not necessarily share…
Amongst the main questions asked before leaving, one that is asked most often is about safety. Generally, your own anxieties are relayed by grandparents and friends, for whom boats are dangerous. Although the possibility shouldn’t be ignored – accidents can happen – they are very rare on a classic Atlantic circuit.  The two biggest dangers at sea are fire and falling overboard.

The builders and safety standards have considerably limited the risk of fire; here at the magazine we have not been told of a cruising catamaran completely destroyed by fire in the last twenty years… the risk of falling overboard is a real one. But a few simple precautions limit the possibility of falling overboard considerably: strong stanchions, well-positioned hand rails and above all, clipping on once the conditions demand it and systematically when on watch alone on deck. Finally, the stability of the catamaran’s platform contributes to safety and avoiding this risk.  Then there is piracy, illness or accidents a long way from any doctors… And the never-ending questions about the return. What will happen? Will we be able to integrate into society after having spent a self-sufficient year aboard our catamaran? And the children… How does that work out, etc.And then one day the desire becomes stronger than these constantly repeated questions. There are those who take the plunge and those who remain behind: those who dare and those for whom the dream will never become reality. In the opinion of all those who set off, the most difficult part is taking the decision. DARE! What follows, generally, is nothing but pleasure.

PREPARATION TIME
Once the decision to leave has been taken, the hardest part is done… The rest is just organisation! Certain people must then organise their professional life by taking a sabbatical year (or more). Others will resign purely and simply. Some people are lucky enough to be able to sell their business and leave as a free spirit, for a period which depends on the amount they have in the bank.Potential long distance cruisers are all different and have had various careers. The one thing they have in common is their desire to set off as a family (or as a couple, or even alone) to live differently. All the socio-professional categories are represented on the water, from the solicitor to the multinational company manager, via the dentist and even a journalist from Multihulls World.

Once the budget has been defined and the sabbatical organised, everything must be planned so
that things work out for the best. How do you prepare a sabbatical year? Leaving to live aboard a boat for a year or more is almost always the fruit of a long-imagined dream. When you take the plunge, there numerous choices to be made: to sell or let your apartment, to get rid of the car, organise the relationship with the bank, the tax and other authorities… In the opinion of this magazine’s readers, this ‘private secretary’ role is perfectly suited to the grandparents, unless you have a volunteer living a few kilometres away… And then you must also perfect your training, so that in the case of a family, as a minimum the two adults and even the teenagers are capable of steering the boat and picking up a ‘man overboard’. There are courses organised on multihulls, for a reasonable price, which allow all those aboard to learn the minimum skills required to cope with the unexpected. It is essential to have a good first-aid kit aboard, and having attended a first-aid course is a real plus. And then, if your route takes you to remote places, you must be able to repair easily anything which can break down and spoil your cruise: a diesel mechanic’s course is a good idea.

AND THE CHILDREN?
Children aboard… There are lots of questions about them. How will they adapt? Safety? School? The great majority of children adapt to life aboard much quicker than the adults. In a few days, they assimilate the safety rules, find their place aboard and find real pleasure in this new life, where their parents are finally available… Leaving with your children is the best experience you can offer them. Opening the world to them, showing them things that others will never see and above all, quite simply spending a full year with them.
Although adaptation is not a problem, you must remain vigilant regarding safety. At this level, the catamaran’s stability is a real plus. However, it must be borne in mind that a young child must be supervised by an adult, all the time. When sailing, their movements should be limited to the interior of the boat and the cockpit, and getting them into the habit of always asking an adult before going out is the basis of safety. Rigging jackstays aboard and having a harness which is easy for them to put on and wear is also essential.

The biggest problem with children aboard is school. The French CNED system is particularly well-suited to on-board schooling, and is cost is reasonable. For 97 euros for nursery and primary, 118 euros for middle school and 640 euros for secondary, your children will receive all the lessons for their school year, with exercises, homework and, if they work well, the certificate allowing them to move up into the next class, so they can pick up classic schooling when you return… The only snag is that you are on a sabbatical year, and they are not. They therefore have to work. In general, experience shows that by ‘going to school’ every morning and keeping a few holidays for when friends or family visit, the programme can be followed, but it is sometimes difficult to get certain children to work when you are anchored in a tropical paradise… If you are interested in the subject of children aboard, have a look at our full dossier.

THE CHOICE OF THE (RIGHT) BOAT
Yes, to leave, you must have a boat. Having this magazine in your hand shows that choosing a multihull seems to you to be the solution… Stable, comfortable, faster than an equivalent monohull, offering privacy for each member of the family, easy to manoeuvre; the catamaran is THE ideal solution for a sabbatical year as a family. The proof is that we all know monohull fanatics who have gone over to multihulls, but the opposite is much, much rarer.  When you have tasted the delights of the catamaran, it is difficult to return to a boat which is narrow, which leans, and whose draught bars you from the best anchorages…
But within the multihull family, the choice is huge: although the trimaran is not ideal for a long-distance cruise as a family, the catamaran market offers an abundance of choice.

New or second-hand; production cat or one-off; in ply, sandwich or aluminium; fast or faster; accepting a greater or lesser load: there is something for all tastes and all budgets (from 50,000 to 3 million euros!). It is therefore above all a question of personal choices. Nowadays, the majority of sabbatical year cruisers opt for a production catamaran, equipped more or less for ‘ocean cruising’. They are easily found on the market and can be resold easily after the voyage, as long as the boat is in good condition and the price asked is coherent. This part of the preparation requires the most work, as during the cruise the boat chosen will become the family home. It must therefore meet the wishes and needs of the family – sufficient number of cabins, ability to carry the necessary load – as well as the crew’s nautical skills.

There is nothing worse than having to put up with a heavy boat if you and your family are sport catamaran racing enthusiasts. Whilst in the opposite case, constantly having to manoeuvre, adjust the daggerboards and play with the spinnaker sheets can quickly become boring for a family crew…The choice will therefore largely depend on your crew and the programme. This must be defined carefully so as not to make a mistake and spoil your dream!

We have just received a couple of photos from the owners of the 70 Sunreef Power DAMRAK II who are now exploring Cuba and Cayo Largo. The yacht stayed in the local marina side by side with the Sunreef 62 SOON COME. Sunreef 62 BLAZE II Arrives to SYDNEY after 4-year circumnavigation

Sunreef catamarans are everywhere! Although they can mostly be seen in the Mediterranean or in the Caribbean, Sunreef luxury catamarans visit entire world with their lucky owners. Some of them explore French Polynesia.

The Story of the Sunreef Yachts Brand – a Brilliant Mix of Passion and Vision
Behind the success and dynamic development of the prestigious Sunreef Yachts brand stands  its founder and president, Francis Lapp. Born in 1958, in French Alsace, Francis is a true titan of work: he  distinguished himself early in his  career, quickly moving into management positions and starting his own business soon afterwards. His first major undertaking was to manufacture  switchgear cubicles for  major companies such as Coca Cola and Siemens.  Production began in France, but the business soon moved to Poland. Francis first visited the country on the invitation of the Warsaw Automobile Club,  where he took part in a rally and won third place in general classification. Passionate about rallying, especially in his beloved Africa, Francis continued along his journey  to discover Poland’s  immense development potential throughout the 1990s.

Just two weeks after the rally, the  entrepreneur returned to Warsaw, this time to live there and start a business. In 1992 he opened HTEP POLSKA Ltd,  for the production of switchgear cubicles and soon expanded services to include the design and installation of electrical, sanitary and air conditioning systems in large industrial facilities. Francis’ new friends influenced  him to sail a small racing catamaran on a lake near Warsaw. He enjoyed it so much that he decided to buy one for himself: a cruising catamaran with cabins to pursue his travelling dreams.

At the Paris Boat Show, Francis bought his first catamaran and had it shipped to Madagascar.  Next, he opened Sunreef Travel (now converted in Sunreef Yachts Charter), a travel agency specialising in yacht rentals on the Indian Ocean. The company grew quickly as clients  demanded more comfortable and larger catamarans. While trying to source such boats, Francis discovered that there were no  suitable yachts available on the market. This  inspired him to get involved in building large,  custom, luxury multihulls. His flourishing company, HTEP POLSKA,  provided financial resources that allowed  Francis to invest in his new business and start his lifelong  adventure with yachting. He opened a shipyard in Gdansk, a city with ancient traditions in naval construction and with an experienced workforce. Charmed by the city’s rich history and splendour, he dropped his anchor on the Polish Baltic coast.

In 2002, construction halls were  leased in the famous Gdansk shipyard, with construction work commencing soon afterwards. The first, highly innovative, luxury catamaran, Sunreef 74, was launched in 2003, and became the shipyard’s  ticket to all major yacht shows in Cannes, Monaco, Miami, Fort Lauderdale, Palm Beach and Genoa. Sunreef 74  debuted as the world’s first  oceangoing catamaran with a flybridge equipped with a centralized helm station adding a deck level that  considerably expanded living space.

Today more than 60 yachts, both sailing and power, are cruising worldwide and spreading the unique Sunreef touch  around the globe. The company is now the world leader in the design and construction of large, customized luxury catamarans. Even though annual production  steadily increases, Francis  remains   focused on build quality rather than quantity. Innovation,  at the very core of Sunreef’s vision,  motivates the construction of two new models  each year. 2010 was a very special year for the company with the launch of two superyachts  exceeding 100 feet LOA: IPHARRA and CHE. These stunning yachts have certainly made  an indelible mark on the superyacht world, and  prove that catamarans are a fantastic alternative to super and mega yachts.

In 2011, Sunreef Yachts introduced a new cruising catamaran model, the Sunreef 58, and has two new projects under construction that will be completed in 2012: the 60 Sunreef Power and Sunreef 82 Double Deck. The key to the company’s spectacular success is  due to a combination of several factors: activity in a niche market sector,  locating the design office and production facility under one roof, availability  for client meetings at all times, high quality custom finishes , and  innovate solutions  for each client. Sunreef also has a wide range of support services that are highly appreciated by  owners: yacht charter, yacht management, and after sales service with technical support.

The Sunreef shipyard is his big dream, and every, single yacht launch is a powerful moment for him. He likes to stress that he is proud of his adopted country and proud to sign his creations  MADE IN POLAND.

Sunreef 70 POMAIKA’I leaves POLAND for the Hawaii

Last Friday, March 23rd, Sunreef‘s recently launched sailing catamaran POMAIKA’i has been loaded on a cargo ship heading to Ft Lauderdale where her owners are waiting for her.After a couple of months in the Caribbean, they will take the yacht to Hawaii where they live and wish to explore even more on a boat.

There is no better way than doing it on a stable, safe, comfortable and custom-finished luxury catamaran? It is the first Sunreef with base in this remote archipelago composed of numerous heavenly islands. Innovation,  at the very core of Sunreef’s vision,  motivates the construction of two new models  each year. 2010 was a very special year for the company with the launch of two superyachts  exceeding 100 feet LOA: IPHARRA and CHE. In 2011, Sunreef Yachts introduced a new cruising catamaran model, the Sunreef 58, and has two new projects under construction that will be completed in 2012: the 60 Sunreef Power and Sunreef 82 Double Deck. The key to the company’s spectacular success is  due to a combination of several factors: activity in a niche market sector,  locating the design office and production facility under one roof, availability  for client meetings at all times, high quality custom finishes , and  innovate solutions  for each client. Having spent almost half his life in Poland, Francis is now fluent in Polish and  has been able to create a strong and motivated team to carry out his innovative vision with unstoppable passion. The Sunreef shipyard is his big dream, and every, single yacht launch is a powerful moment for him. He likes to stress that he is proud of his adopted country and proud to sign his creations  MADE IN POLAND.

Last February, Sunreef’s most popular power yacht, the 70 Sunreef Power DAMRAK II, went for a cruise around Cuba with owners and their friends.

And although the owner claims that his favourite destination is the one he hasn’t discovered yet, we know that he was delighted with the largest Caribbean island and truly enjoyed his charter.

Travelling on a catamaran is indeed an enjoyable experience especially for families and large parties thanks to its superb space, both interior and exterior, great stability which guarantees safety and comfort in navigation, close contact with water thanks to low freeboard.In addition, low draft allows close approach to the beaches and secluded bays, inaccessible to large, deep vessels and also lower fuel consumption, which is now a considerable issue concerning all yacht owners.

While shipyards are urgently looking for “green” appliances reducing the fuel consumption, catamaran-yachtsseem to be a perfect choice to avoid tremendous coasts in this regard.

Sunreef 58 FREESTYLE cruising in Montenegro

Launched in November 2014, Sunreef 58 FREESTYLE is permamently based in Porto Montenegro in the beautiful Kotor Bay. After being displayed for the first time at the Croatia Boat Show in Split, FREESTYLE went back to Montenegro where she was photographed during an afternoon cruise in the breathtaking Bay of Kotor.

FREESTYLE set sails by the monastery Our Lady on the Rock near Perast and sailed up to Kotor city. Montenegro is a superb little country in Southern Europe with a wonderful mountain scenery not only in the Bay of Kotor but also on the sea side and inland, especially by the Skadar lake. Sunreef Yachts invites you to visit this interesting country and discover its beauty from the sea perspective.

We recommend you of course the bay of Kotor with Perast, Kotor, Tivat, the Lustica Peninsula and the Adriatic coast with Budva, Milletic, Petrovac, Sveti Stefan, Bar, Ulnijc, and a handful of little bays and villages in between these cities. Also, if you have some time, leave your boat in Budva or Bar marina, rent a car and go to the Skadar Lake to admire the biggest European Birds Reserve, superb views and picturesques local villages. Discovering Montenegro on a Luxury Catamaran

Montenegro has obviously been there for ages I mean more the superb landscape setting than political circumstances but it became very popular with superyachts only recently.

Based in Tivat, a new and trendy marina of Porto Montenegro is now fully booked and new berths are to be built within the next three years. The Sunreef 58 FREESTYLE was lucky enough to get her space on the main pier and enjoy the stunning location of the Bay of Tivat, being a part of the heavenly sinuous Bay of Kotor. Montenegro has a very diversified coast line, filled with fjords and mountains that take constantly your breath away.Catamarans are still rare in these waters; most of them can be found in neighbouring Croatia.
But it is only a matter of time. Kotor, Tivat, Budva, Bar and many other smaller marinas are available to visit, discover and fall in love with.
